Born in San Luis Río Colorado, Mexico, Irma moved to Salinas with her family at the age of six and grew up in the Alisal neighborhood, where she attended local public schools.
Inspired by her teachers and community mentors, Irma developed a deep commitment to service at an early age—one that continues to guide her work today. She currently serves as an elected Trustee on the Hartnell Community College District Governing Board, where she represents Trustee Area 4 and helps oversee policies that impact thousands of students pursuing higher education and career training. Her leadership on the board reflects her strong belief that education is the foundation for economic opportunity and long-term community success.
In addition to her elected role, Irma has dedicated her professional career to supporting local families and youth. She serves as Manager of the MLK Family Resource Center, where she works directly with parents and children to connect them with educational programs, scholarships, and essential support services. Earlier in her career, she also worked with organizations such as AmeriCorps and The First Tee of Monterey County, focusing on youth development, literacy, and strengthening community connections.
Throughout her career, Irma has earned a reputation as a collaborative leader who brings people together to solve problems and create opportunities. Her work has focused on improving access to education, strengthening family support systems, and ensuring that all residents—especially working families—have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.
Irma is running for Salinas City Council District 5 to continue her lifelong commitment to service and to help build a safer, stronger, and more vibrant Salinas. Her priorities include improving neighborhood safety, expanding opportunities for youth and families, supporting local businesses, and ensuring responsible leadership that puts the community first.
